The first club of its kind in Central Auckland
Central City Baseball Club was founded in 2007 to bring youth baseball to the Central and Central West suburbs of Auckland for the first time.
Our catchment covers Hillsborough, Lynfield, Avondale, Titirangi, Blockhouse Bay, Mt Roskill, Wesley, Mt Albert, Mt Eden, Epsom, Newmarket, Point Chevalier, Western Springs, Grey Lynn, Ponsonby, Auckland Central, Onehunga and Royal Oak. Our home ground is War Memorial Park, Mount Roskill — right in the heart of Auckland City.
Developing players, on and off the diamond
Baseball is one of the most popular youth sports in the world, and it's fast gaining a foothold here in New Zealand. Our aim is to build the structures that let our young players make the most of the opportunities the sport offers — personally and professionally — with the exposure and training that open doors both locally and internationally.
Central City is run entirely by experienced baseball volunteers who have spent years helping grow the sport across New Zealand. Their work reaches beyond our own club, helping integrate baseball into the country's mainstream amateur sports scene and lifting the overall level of competition — so that talented, driven young ballplayers have a genuine pathway into an academic or professional career in the sport.
Wearing the silver fern
Central City players compete across all Regional and National competitions and regularly earn selection to New Zealand representative teams — from Little League International tournaments across Asia and the USA, to IBAF tournaments that act as a pathway toward future Olympic baseball programmes.
Building diamond sports in Auckland
We're working with local softball clubs to bring both codes together under a shared "diamond sports" banner, in line with the international model where boys typically follow a baseball pathway and girls a softball pathway — both of which can lead to US high school and college scholarships and international representative honours.
We're also partnering with Auckland Council and the Puketāpapa Local Board to develop facilities that benefit the wider diamond sports community across Auckland — work that has already delivered a new ballpark, dugouts, floodlights, and New Zealand's first purpose-built pitching bullpen at War Memorial Park.
Milestones since 2007
On the Honours Board
Since 2007, Central City has sent players on to represent Auckland and New Zealand on the world stage — from Little League tournaments in Indonesia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Guam, the Philippines and Korea, to NZ U15 IBAF World Championships in Sinaloa, Mexico and Japan, and U18 World Cup Qualifiers in Auckland, Sydney and Guam.
